Google Analytics and Website Updates

After almost six months of collecting Google Analytics data from the YOakleyPR website, the WordPress blog, and Facebook Insights, I performed some changes based off of the data provided by visitors.

Google Analytics & Website Updates

As you may have noticed, the YOakleyPR website was updated on January 1, 2013. Many aspects of the site have changed, including a new Resources page, easy-to-use ContactMe forms and buttons, and a new RSS feed featuring recent posts from The YOakleyPR Blog.

While The YOakleyPR Blog has received a noticeable amount of support from U.S. readers, especially those participating in LinkedIn interest groups that focus on the topics of public relations and social media, Web traffic to the main site could be improved. To help address this, I have incorporated some of Douglas Karr‘s suggestions on Google Analytics Content Experiments which will allow me to better monitor visitor behavior and adjust the content of the website accordingly.

Current Google Analytics Goals:

  1. Determine what pages receive the most traffic
  2. Identify keywords that receive the most traffic to the WordPress blog
  3. Identify content development opportunities throughout the website for March 2013 update
  4. Determine what landing page encourages visitors to visit click through instead of dropping off

Search Engine Optimization

google analytics SEOOther stats that I would like to improve include converting new visitors into returning visitors, and search traffic. Although a great deal of my current search traffic comes from Google, I would like to improve the visibility of the website on other search engines such as Yahoo! and Bing which may require further alterations to my HTML coding and keyword use. Scepter Marketing can help you get visibility in one of the most powerful tools available.

Over the last few months, I have revisited old blog posts to ensure that they met with search engine optimization best practices, included keywords embedded in header tags, page URLs and images, and that each post was graded “in the green” by WordPress SEO standards. I have found this to be quite a helpful plugin and would recommend it to anyone interested in incorporating SEO into their WordPress blogging activities. These improvements have allowed older posts a new chance at life, and I have already noticed that many are receiving traffic from search queries related to the post.

Thought Leadership

Discussions and webinars with successful bloggers, like Melinda Emerson have proved that building a larger article library will also increase web traffic and promote a thought leadership platform.

To assist me with this, I’ve started accepting guest blog posts that cover public relations, marketing, and social media for small businesses and nonprofit organizations. You may have read two or three of these posts over the last month. I hope to utilize this as a long-term aspect of my social media strategy, so anyone interested in guest blogging for this website, is invited to contact me.

I look forward to revisiting this within the next couple of months and further optimizing the website. This content experiment will run until March 2013 and I have high expectations for the data! I appreciate all of the readers who have visited since its launch in July 2012 and aim to keep the navigation simple, content unique, and the experience enjoyable.
