“I’m happy to say that we have reached another milestone and are continuing to grow our nonprofit-focused programming to not only address the needs of small nonprofit organizations but also serve the ambitious undergraduate and postgraduate professionals who are looking to launch their careers,” said Yasheaka Oakley Owens, Founder of YOakleyPR.
Since its inception, the YOakleyPR Virtual Internship Program has expanded its network by becoming an Approved Internship Provider at more than 150 colleges and universities throughout the United States.
In the last five years, YOakleyPR’s Virtual Internship Program has served 165 undergraduate and postgraduate professionals interested in engaging in educational and practical projects that aid 501(c)(3) charitable organizations in need of public relations, social media, online marketing and graphic design support services.
“It’s really humbling to speak with past participants and learn how this Virtual Internship Program changed the trajectory of their job search and ultimately led to their first or next job in their desired industry,” says Oakley Owens. “I always tell them that this internship experience is 100% whatever they make of it. As long as you are willing to put in the time and effort needed to achieve their goals, this internship can be a game-changer.”
In December 2015, Yasheaka Oakley Owens received the Anthony Fulginiti Award for Commitment to Education from the Philadelphia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) at the annual Pepperpot Awards.
The Anthony Fulginiti Award was established to honor a public relations professional who shares Rowan University professor Tony Fulginiti’s commitment to the future of the profession. The award honors a person who excels in education, either through their mentoring/teaching, their efforts to help shape the careers of future PR professionals, or their contributions to PRSSA. Owens is one of the youngest recipients of the Anthony Fulginiti Award for Commitment to Education since the award’s inception in 1988.
In celebration of its fifth year anniversary, YOakleyPR relaunched its commemorative infographic which highlights past participants geographically, academically, and by field.
