Congratulations to Lynn Tihopu, our April Intern of the Month!
Lynn Tihopu became a Human Resources Project Management Intern at YOakleyPR in January 2015. Since joining the team, Lynn has had to tackle an incredible amount of surprise challenges and her ability to handle everything that has come her way proves that she earned the title “Intern of the Month!” Although she wasn’t originally interviewed for the Human Resources Project Manager position, Lynn has maneuvered it with great skill and diplomacy in a very short amount of time.
In addition to learning the Human Resources Internship role, Lynn has also faced the challenges of: resume reviews and revisions, intern handbook amendments, conducting virtual recruiting efforts, interviewing potential candidates, engaging in employee relations, preparing and presenting career readiness presentations to her colleagues, overseeing personnel documents, and assisting an internal team of 10 virtual interns with their HR-related needs.
As a dedicated Project Management Intern, here are some of the observations that the interns have expressed about Lynn:
“I believe that when it comes to professionalism, Lynn practices what she preaches. She set the standards for professionalism within the program and demonstrates those same standards through each of her interactions. Furthermore, when conflicts did arise, she exercised a fair, but firm hand in her approach, which is an important quality in a manager of any sort.”
“Lynn shows great teamwork because she loves to help her interns. Lynn has the ability to probably get all the projects done by herself, but she divides them with us and is very helpful. I never feel scared to ask any questions with her and she will go to any lengths to help us be successful.”
“Lynn hit the ground running when she came into the program and has not stopped since then. In addition to completing the ongoing duties of an HR manager, she has also taken on the role of being somewhat of a career counselor for interns who are actively job seeking. While she is doing a great job streamlining the HR aspects of the program, I believe that her efforts and guidance for active job seekers will be remembered above all by each intern.”
“Lynn has demonstrated that she is a problem solver, who is willing and eager to lend her assistance in any way she can for the betterment of the team and the interns. I know this because of the open line of communication that she has established through project manager meetings and the thoughtful feedback that she contributes to the conversations. I feel that she goes above and beyond to prove her dedication to the YOakleyPR internship program.”
We had a chance to talk to Lynn about her role with YOakleyPR and her thoughts about the YOakleyPR Virtual Internship Program and she was happy to share a few words about her Spring 2015 internship.
“I’m very grateful to have this opportunity for professional development and to expand my knowledge in the field of human resources outside of the classroom. I’m gaining valuable hands-on experience while being able to treat my fellow interns the way I want to be treated,” said Lynn.
“I believe in life that the rules apply to all of us. If management and human resource personnel use diplomacy, act with a code of moral ethics and mutual respect when dealing with interns and employees, then work places would not only run much smoother but toxic environments could be greatly avoided. I would like to sincerely thank my fellow interns for voting for me and for giving me the opportunity to learn from them as they are learning from me. I also want to sincerely thank Ms. Oakley for ultimately picking me for this internship. She is a highly intelligent, business professional that inspires us all each day.”
Congratulations Lynn! Your efforts have paid off. You will be receiving a $25 Visa gift card in the mail, plus a little something extra to put on your resume. Keep up the good work!
